Hi ! I,m new to forum and have arrived like many before,I'm sure, seeking help...
My '96 1.4 Lanos (78,000 miles) has all of a sudden began idling faster than usual(no rev counter fitted so unable to be more specific). After a cold or warm start the automatic choke switches off and I estimate that the engine idles approx 500 to 1000rpm faster than normal. The car drives well and there are no warning lights on the dash. I have discovered on inspection under the bonnet that the engine vent hose p/n 90409191 is punctured and will be replaced asap but i wonder if this is contributing to my symptoms or just another repair job ?
All time and help would be much appreciated
Thanks,Mike.
Hi MontroseMike and Welcome aboard the Forum,
A good start would be to replace the the vent hose as it could possibly be drawing in air.
The most common problem with the higher than normal revving situation on the Lanos 1.4 is usual a dirty IAC Valve which is very-very easy to clean.

Below is a link for the full procedure of cleaning the IAC Valve.

Hope this is of some kind of help for you.

get battery and alternator checked also
I had same problem the engine idle speed would go upto 2500 revs.

This happened after a full service at the local Bosch centre.

I returned the car several times 2 diagnostic test at £50 a time no faults recorded, basically garage give up.

I checked the engine for any loose or poor connections,

Found that the manifold pipe jubilee clip took 5 turns to tighten, checked all other jubilee clips again required tightening. Problem solved.

went back to service centre and told them my finding, no appoligy or refund.
They concluded problem was air leakage braking the vacuum and altering the engine management settings?

therefore lesson learned trust no one
