I am looking to buy a Daewoo Lanos. I know the cars are quite expensive for spares but is there anything else I should look out for which are problems with the models directly.

Any info to point me what to look out for would be appreciated.
The Lanos is a superb little car for the money. They are very cheap now, to run and buy.

Not really sure what to look out for, but a car with a full service history, you can’t really go wrong.
Hi,

I bought my daewoo nearly four years ago for 4k and now I am told it is worth only just over 1k on a W plate with 55k on the clock! The depreciation of these cars (I have a Lanos) is huge! But as a buyer this is advantageous as you can get a good car really cheaply.

In terms of parts I believe Vauxhall parts can be used. Mine is the 1.6 SX which has, I believe, the same engine as the same year Vauxhall Astra 1.6. Whether or not the same parts/prices are the same or similar I cannot say as I have only (Touch Wood) had to replace my fifth gear cog at 50k due to crunching. I just went to a gear box specialist and they changed it for a generic part. Apparently this is a common problem with this car.
Hi dude, just wondered how is your car only woth just over 1K? i haven't seen a w plate for less than 2 and i have just paid 1.2K for a '98 Lanos SX if your trying to sell yours somebody is trying to swindle you i think. I would look on auto trader that will give you an idea of what yours is worth sure its more than 1K though

Cool Snow boarders rule!!
Hey man,

Check out parkers guide online. It gives you the values for trade and private.
Hi dude
I have checked out Parkers online guide. However i have also looked on Autotrader.co.uk and a Lanos on a 'W' plate with that low milage seems to be selling for at least 2K. If yours is in Good condition with low milage it will be worth more. That guide is only a rough guide to pricing anyway, it is not the bible on car prices.
Also in response to an earlier post, i went into a Vauxhall dealer for a part (i had no idea where my nearest chevrolet dealer was) the mechanic told me the engines started the same but Daewoo tinkered with it and tuned it so now not many parts are transferable between the two cars. I also have a 1.6 SX lanos which is great to drive.
Hi dude,

Some interesting and positve information there, perhaps I will get a few more £££'s for my beast after all!!!

Perhaps I will post on here for private sale when the time arrives, I cannot imagine a tradesperson will give much!

Rock On!
I spent £150 on mine a few scrapes on the bumper and about 30k on the clock (=
Hi guys
Maybe thats something we could add to this site a market place sort of like auto-trader for selling cars between Daewoo owners, most of the car magazines have advertising space in the back pages why don't we? Cool
I like that idea I would love to buy another daewoo like my old one it was my perfect car till it got smashed up Sad

Sorry mate you got had.

I just brought a 2000 Lanos 1.6 SX in amazing condition (no rust, scratches or dents) and no problems for £700 they are worth about £1300 but u can get them much cheaper then tht.
Dude,
How the hell did you manage that? i got mine from a private seller in Romford for £1,350 it is perfect had no problems for the last 5 months, full service history and only had 68,000 on the clock when i got it Cool
I bought my 1998 1.4 Lanos from Ebay 2 years ago for £250. It had done high motorway mileage (100k) but has a full service history and is an amazing little car that still drives like new. The bodywork is near perfect with no rust and just a few bumper scuffs. I only bought it as a temporary car but it's in such good condition that I kept it and has sailed through every MoT test with no problems.

The important thing on these cars is to make sure the cambelt is changed every 40k miles and regular oil changes.
We have just bought a 2001 (Y) Lanos SX auto for £995. It's back at the garage at the moment having the ABS fixed ( a common problem with the Woos apparently.) Lovely car though with good spec - Air con, electric mirrors and windows, alloy wheels and colour coordinated bumpers etc.
Hi, Looking to buy a secondhand Lanos. I was wondering if the Lanos has a 'Master' key and if I should only consider one with a master key?
Any advice please?
