Hi Everyone.
New on here so please forgive me if this has been posted and answered already.
Just got a 2L Leganza cdx.
Went straight through its mot and its a lovelly looking car but it's using tons of water..and is slow to excellerate until it hits 30mph then its off like a rocket.
It also smokes alot from the exhaust when idle or parking after a long run.
Anybody got any ideas as the wife uses it and I don't want it breaking down with the kids in the car.
Can anybody give me any advice on these problems.
cheers
Northern Ray
Thanks for that. that's what I thought.
Question 2
It's a 98 (S reg)
cost £200. +£60 for a battery and £50 for MOT.
Any idea what the car is worth? and is it worth getting it repaired?
what you got to look it is whats there around to replace the car with, equal spec, size, comfort & toys along with remaining of MOT!
rough guess between £200 n £300 max, havnt you got any back street garages local who can do the work!
If your anything like me tho I would go to a good workshop n try to grab one of there teckies n ask who does jobs on the side (trust me there will be one if not more)

Thanks Bodie your a star!!
father in law knows a guy who might be able to do it..depending on cost gonna try and get the cambelt done at the same time..
Cheers again xxx

If you get it done then change the cambelt and tensioner and idlers. If you dont then it snaps the say bye bye engine.Cam belt change intervals were reduced from 60k to 40k because they snapped to early. The cam belt is partly removed when the head is taken off any way.
You smoking problem is due to a faulty Camshaft Position Sensor.
and you are loosing coolant because there is most likely a leak and the coolant is burning off on a hot surface. Im sure you can prbably smell it at times.

Only the 2.2 has a cam sensor. Smoke out the back along with losing coolant suggests it is leaking into the cylinders and being burnt off as steam. This is usually associated with head gasket failure, however, as stated, you shouldn't rule out the possibility of a leak.

have a look at my thread on here, ive a similar problem.

easy way to see if its the head ..take the black cover off the plugs, and the allen bolts out the top of the head, and remove the camshaft cover. if you have yellow ish gooey stuff in there or areas that look very clean then its getting water up past the valves and forming emulsions withthe oil....also check the breather pipe that comes up fromthe sump onthe front right ....the rubber tube may be full of this gooey emulsion.
as for getting someone to do it.....break the spanners out..its a simple job.....if you dont feel like going it alone drop me aline ..i'd be happy to help.
the head gasket sets for the 2.2 and 2.0 are identical.
