Hi. I've got 1999 800cc Matiz, there's water leaking from the back of the head at the off side end and also when I took the plugs out I found large amounts of water in the bores. Does this mean there's a crack in the head or is it something to do with the inlet manifold, anyone know?

Oh dear. Sad
Sorry to say it but its usually a recon engine job. My daughters' 2000 plate had a second hand engine at 53,000 miles with the same problem.
I agree it looks like time for a replacement engine is your easist bet!Alright
engines look to be rollimg out at £250 all in on fleabay or you could clicky this link.
And maybe PM user through here.
Car maybe still available?
Hi Alex
sounds like the inlet manifold as cracked.changed loads of them in my time and just changed one today.the manifold is only made out of plastic and they corroide and crack!,never had one that bad the water as gone into the bores though.
think the manifold is about £190.00 to buy and around 2.5 hours to fit.

I have also done the above but I used the same manifold as a previous daewoo dealer/ mechanic here made up a heap of plates to go in the damaged area and fix the issue. it works a treat but I also have never seen one that bad.

there is a water way about 20mm round left of the manifold cam belt end, looks like water has found its way from there along a little channel inside plastic manifold.it is possible to take off manifold cut naf bit covering water way make up metal plate and blank off the hole, replace o rings on each inlet to seal again.it works coz ive done it but thats if you got no money, also do a leak down test to make sure haed gasket is not naf.

Thanks for your reply, thanks to everyone who has replied. I have since taken the manifold and the head off out of curiosity and sure enough that blanked end of the manifold has dissolved causing it to leak. However, the inlet bores gasket was very intact and whilst it is possible to get drops of water past it does not explain the large volumes of water in ALL 3 bores. When I cranked the engine over water literally was spewing out of the spark plug holes. Left a couple of minutes you get the same amounts! Now then, I have inspected the bores and they look fine (it'd be unlikely all three were cracked anyway). I have inspected the head carefully, to the naked eye no cracks can be seen (remember all 3 bores are filling up). There was also water found in the camshaft lay area. The only explanation that I could think of that would allow for all 3 bores filling up is a seriously perished head gasket - well, this was changed in 2006 and seemed pretty well self-adhered to the block & head. Please let me know your thoughts. Alex.
just about to go and pick my matiz up from having the inlet manifold changed. cost £190 for the part and £100 to fit.

I cured one for the princely sum of £2.60. They tend to go on the rear LH corner. I carefully felt around until I found a bit of the gasket hanging out of the joint. I cut this back slightly and applied high temp (red) instant gasket with my fingers. I forced it in to the gap and built up the layers over a couple of hours. Ensure that all the back of the engine and the manifold had a good depth of gasket.

Not very high tec but 2 months on and it is still sound.

The alternator has just failed though.
iv heard of the heads on these having problems if they have been skimmed
i dont know why just problems iv had at my work when we have sent them off for skimming
