Lanos 1.6 Sx Auto 1998 Started idling at 2000 revs
Checked vacum pipes
One slight spilt stuck tape around it.
I think I have cleaned idle control valve if this is the black unit with cable plug next to larger black cylinder unit on upper bulkhead
Is the thing I have cleaned the idle control valve?
I have read about an air bypass adjustment screw which may need adjusting unsure if I have one and its location anybody any clues?
I read about possibly a problem with a throttle sensor switch any clues on its location ?
I have read the problem is known to Daewoo for which ther is a ECU download available.
and I need to
Ignition On
Disconnect Idle Speed Control Valve
Ignition Off Re-connect Idle Speed Control valve
Repeat 4-5 times
Start Vehicle - SHOULD NOT IDLE UNASSISTED
Keep vehicle idling on throttle to initialise self learn process
I think I have done this via taking the tube of the little black thing I cleaned or does disconnect mean disconnect the cable plug?
Will idling at 2000 fail an MOT ?
MOT due tomorrow 4 Feb !!

I had the same problem - disconnect the electrical connector (has four wires). This works for me, but I think you have to keep doing this from time to time (dealer did something similar before but wasn't a permanent fix). I think I may be selling this car after a year - it's the last time I let my wife choose a car.
Yes it's a common fault. Go through the procedure you described by disconnecting the electrical plug of the idle valve (the cylinder shaped thing on throttle body - the top one).

Hi,
I'm having a bit of trouble, being a young lad, first car.. Dont know my way around the engine too well yet.
I'm trying to find the idle valve on my 97' 1.4 Lanos
Just not sure if i'm looking in the right place.. You couldnt get a picture or anything could you?

Well the idle control valve in my car looks like this:http://www.freeengineinfo.com/media/maxima%20idle%20air%20control.JPG
It's located on the right-hand side of the car.
HTH
If you look at the throttle body (the opposite side to the throttle cable linkage) you will see 2 sensors. The top round shape one is the idle speed control valve. The one below that is the throttle position sensor.
Another thing that can make the car rev higher is a sticky vehicle speed sensor, but that usually makes the engine rev at about 1300rpm.

I have done this, and it worked ok, idle speed down to 900.
Turned off turned on again all ok.
Took the car out later on and the revs are back up to 1800..
Goddam heap of sh1t

Hi to be honest cleaning the idle control valve wont permanently fix best thing is to replace with a new one!! you get the same problems on most vauxhalls being an ex vm employee i know this is common also the breather hoses into the throttle body clog due to an inadequate oil breather filter so all the small rubbish goes in the pipe and clogs the throttle body breather hole in short replace idle valve and clean throttle body with carb cleaner and check the breather hose on rocker cover is not clogged paul
Yes this is a known problem..... Disconnecting and cleaning etc is only a temp fix. What you need is a new program for the injection ecu which is only available at the dealers. This might cost you about £80 but you wont have the problem again.

Thanks I have recently replaced the breather hose.
The rocker cover gasket is being replaced AGAIN tomorrow
