Just bought a W reg Matiz SE and was delighted with it, until I noticed a large il patch beneath it. Cleaned it off and seems to be a tiny hole in the sump - quite high up, about 20mm down from bolts - any ideas - is it best to get it replaced, if so is it a big job? Have seen some adverts for liquid metal type stuff, but don't know if it would hold? Advice please......

Excellent, thanks for the information, difficult getting it in the air, so will drop it off at garage tonight - looks like it's not a biggie then - phew!!!
Bodie, thanks for your help and also to everyone for keeping posts up-to-date. I had the sump replaced on Friday and garage charged me £190 for that plus oil and filter. Poss a bit on the high side, but he's a good guy and use him regularly. Anyway, wanted to let you know about something else, when I got it the car, the management light flashed on and off with occasional loss of power, got it back from garage after oil change and was still the same (I was hoping that the lack of oil was the prob). Anyway checked your site out and got all the codes for errors from the car. Decided to reset the ecu and run the car for a while to make sure all the codes are up to date before i started investigating and guess what - runs like a dream! Have now done 75 miles in it over weekend and not a splutter. Think (or hope) the ecu was holding onto old codes and compensating for them - so maybe it was lack of oil at times with the previous owner that gave the wrong codes. But you never know I might be back on looking for help if I'm proved wrong!
Glad you got it sorted

We like to hear a happy ending.

Hi guys sorry for dragging up an old thread but my sump gasket is leaking can anyone tell me if I can buy a gasket for my year 2000 800cc matiz or do I have to use liquid gasket? if I have to use liquid gasket can anyone give me the names of some suitable liquid gasket for the job please? as I have never really used it before I found this stuff is it suitable and how much do I use?

Thanks in advance

Hi
The ebay stuff is designed to use with a cartridge gun to extrude the sealant. If you have not got one, don't bother...
Better to use
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store...yId_165691
which I have used on Yaris and Peugeot sumps... Designed for Japanese designs/etc
Use? A moderate bead all round. You should use approx no more than 10% of the tube.
No gasket needed for most modern sumps - just sealant.
I would be wary of buying unbranded/unknown brands sealant for sumps where they are immersed in hot oil. Redoing the job is a pia.. removing old sealant and removing ALL traces of oil - essential to get a good seal - is a job you don't want to do twice.
Hi madasafish thanks for your respone that loctite looks like the stuff I need one more question though thats only like 80ml will that be enough to seal my whole sump pan back up? If not how much am I likely to need?
Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance
One tube should do at least 4 sumps imo...
I did a Yaris timing chain cover. sump and cam cover with 1/3rd of one tube....
Thanks madasafish your helps really appreciated so I just apply a very sparing bead of the sealer to the surface? cos it looks like someones tried to seal the sump before and it looks like theres a s**tload of sealer been used. Was also wondering what grade of oil you guys use in your matiz's I use 15/40 you all think thats ok? and just wondered what everyone else used?
Thanks in advance

The sh*t load of sealer that you can see has probably been put on from the outside in a vain attempt to stop the leak without removing the sump pan, this will never work as you have found out.
With the pan off and all surfaces cleaned, spotlessly, you shouldn't need that much sealant. As you say a nice even bead all the way round should do it. Remember that when you replace the sump pan and tighten it up that the sealant will be flattened and some will squeeze out both inside and outside. If you put too much on then you just squeeze more out which is a waste of sealant and could cause problems inside the engine if it gets into the oil ways.
You will be fine I am sure.
Thanks Jon Stead an everyone else much appreciated
