I guess maybe I should answer this since I am asking for advice here.

Truthfully I purchased the car because it was a very low mileage vehicle and in brand new condition even though it was five years old and only 21,000 miles. The bonus was that it had a brand new motor, not rebuilt. The car had sat for awhile tied up in a lawsuit against the dealership. I worked at the time for a car auction so I picked it up for a song. Thus began my journey with the car. My main concern now of course is availability of parts because it is a discontinued model although this has not been a super huge problem.

The car for the first couple years drove with only a couple of minor problems which has been alignment and keeping the front tires from wearing out. Now I only buy used tires for the front =) Second and most irritating is every code that has come up has been emission related. I have never had a car that I have had to constantly tweak on the emission system for little irritating fixes. Just reading how to fix them has taking longer than the actual fix. Like I said, minor.

The up side is my wife loves the gas mileage and I don’t think I have ever had an AC in car that was colder. I live in Texas where the summers are dead on 100 F everyday and this little car runs around at 40 F and smiles the whole time.

I leave you with the last impression that this car does not ride, run, or look like a eight year old car.

hiya

Im a new woo driver, she's 5yrs old so one of the last Lanos i think, i've only had her for 2 months but she had low mileage 29k. Looks like a new car drives like a dream especially on long journeys. I'm still working on the annoying problem of not liking to start when hot but i haven't given up yet!!

Disappointed the back seats don't fold flater for a hatch, however have a spanner and will take the back seat out when i need to for camping!

Was surprised at the car tax for a 1.4 2003 car,Shocked at the CO2 emissions after having an 12yr old fiesta thought it would be lower and my insurance gone up about £60 but i assume that's because she's newer.

Does anyone know a woo main dealer in Cambridgeshire??

jo

Hi all

Firstly I would like to congratulate on having a great site. I posted a question and got an answer within minutes of posting. How's that for service!

I bought my Lanos new in 2000. It’s now got around 90,000 miles on the clock. In that time I’ve replaced the petrol tank due to leaks, the offside window winder mechanism, the coil and done general stuff like brakes.
I’ve had no real problems getting it through an MOT test so all in all I’m very happy with my car.
Would I buy another one?
Well before finding this forum I would have said yes but now after reading some of the problems on here I’m not too sure!
Did I get a good one or did you guys get bad ones?
I think you'll find that posts in the forums are triggered by problems, and the trend seems to be that many peeps in their first posts are telling us how good their car is.
Nice little number but too many problems with mine.

Paid £1200 on it, a few months after purchase had revving issue, cost £500+ for a tiny little spring that took 4 weeks to find as wasn't coming up on diagnostics. Heater matrix went last year, cos £400+ for repair, then broke again within warranty and took ages to get a new one. Since the first replacement headlamps losing 2-3v, probably mechanics fault but still. Tracking slightly out. Flat spots every now and then. Not easy to access things that need fixing. No easy to get manuals for car novices. AC and rear de-mister never worked, and not easy/cost efficient to fix, unless someone knows how to.

Good points: quite powerful (got the 1.6 SX), nice electric windows, big windscreen, comfortable seats, good positioning of interior light, spotlights nice, easy to refill oil, good fuel consumption, automatic arial. A lot of aesthetic positives i guess, not technical.

A good 2nd car, my 1st was a metro, was awesome, simple to fix, a nice little banger, but not powerful enough lol.

Peace
J
I am a new driver and I purchased a Lanos as my first car as it was very cheap 1k and needed a bigger car than a corsa etc for going fishing in. The insurance for a 1.4 was very expensive on my own 2k but luckly I am on my mums insurance which brings it down to £800! I have been driving the Lanos for 4 months now and I am very happy with it. Its cheap and reliable although I have been having difficulty locating a rear bumper so it would seems spares are not that easy to get hold of!

Overall I'm very happy and would recommended getting a Lanos to anyone looking for a cheap and reliable car!
