I am currently trying to sell a 1999 lanos 1.6, it has always been a bit juddery when cold (auto choke) but it has got worse as it has got older (it seems to run better on more expensive super unleaded). It runs fine once warm and i can drive it ok when its cold, but noone else can drive it propperly when its plkaying up, and am worried it will scare buyers away. Anyone got any ideas??
My first guess would be the engine temp sensor. Not the one that controls the instrument temp gauge but the one that feeds the ecu and located below the HT coil pack. You can unplug the sensor and check it's resistance in situ with a ohm meter. With engine cold you should get a reading somewhere above 3500ohms
iv heard this bit mentioned before, is it something thats easily found from a breakers? could i fit it myself?
I've fitted one before easy enough. Just unscrew old sensor from the side of engine and insert new one. So you don't lose any coolant unscrew the coolant cap to release any pressure and replace cap. That should prevent any coolant leaking out when you remove the sensor.
