Hey everyone,

Today was a very promising day for us as we managed to do a few things for our lovely little Woo Matiz Very Happy It deserves it!
First we called up to our local scrappy/vehicle dismantelers for a few tizzy parts, and to our luck they had a tizzy there, only one in the whole of the huge yard! Massive it was! The owner/boss was very helpful and showed us where it was and gave us a very good price, lol only because hes the boss/owner and my dad knows him well, Twyn vehicle dismantelers! Very good, we always go there lol Very Happy

Anyway! It was a bit of a struggle to get to the tizzy itself as we had to walk far, walking round cars, n cars, and the ground wasnt much help, by being muddy, thankfully it wasnt muddy muddy! As in so muddy our feet would sink down! Phew!! Very Happy I was dying to see the little tizzy, walked round with our toolbox at the ready and there it was, it was on top of an old Renault Laguna, twas a 1998 i think on a T reg SE model in dark green, leaf green is it?? I think! Dont worry! I managed to get a pic of it! Very Happy

Looks sad doesnt it? Poor thing was only scrapped because both sills near the wheen arch below the rear doors were rotten, had holes in it so mush have failed its MOT Sad Other than that it was a very respectable Matiz tidy outside, but the inside was very damp, wet and pretty smelly sadly, but there we are.

We got all that we needed, we got things like, left side indicator lens as ours was cracked badly, dash mat as ours didnt have one, both headlamps as they were in pretty good condition! They were not fogged up to my amazement! And we finally also got lots of grey trim plastic clips for spare! Very Happy Why not, never know when they may come in handy! Wink We got the lot for just............a fiver (£5.00)!! Very Happy Wow cheap or what?
We got home and i decided to put back the life in our engine and the heat shiled as they were parked and a bit rusty. Scruubed it all down, took minutes, primed the areas, masked up with the paper the surrounding areas and painted it in stunning bright glossy metallic silver Very Happy Now i have taken the pics only just now as its dark outside, sorry for the poor quality photos! Wink
Before being spurced up!

Thanks for looking! Comments are appreciated and will be replied and thanked Wink
Cheers,

how lucky one can be. i could use few parts from that scrapper myself. only if it weren't 4260.33 km away (2647 miles).

I like very much how you told the story. the pictures are awesome.

the work on your car looks clean and neat.

I wish you replaced the coolant surge tank as well. looks rusty and ruin the scene.

all together, nice efforts Thumbsup Thumbsup
Definetely lucky! Really? Oh yes you are hmm quite a fair fair distance from the UK and that scrap yard, shame. Is there any local scrap yard's or vehicle dismantelers around in Egypt? I havnt a clue! Very Happy I have never been to Egypt. Although i have been abroad a handful of times Very Happy
Thank you, yes i tend to be quite good, when it comes to stories heheBiggrin Thank you Biggrin Glad you like those pictures! Oh yes, thank you! Yep, clean and neat sums it up very well indeed.

Yeah i know, thats a good point. You see, when we went to our local scrappy that green tizzy didnt have a good expansion tank Sad In fact nearly everything under the bonnet was gone! Engine, pipes, radiator the lot!! Shocking!
Ours was clean before, about 2 weeks ago. We cleaned the bottle, clean out the rust and we even did a water change that took ages. Have the car running, disconnect one of the pipes near the radiator let the dirty orange water pour into the tank and it would sink down and we would then pour clean water into the tank. We would do this about 8 to 10 times obviously whilst reving the engine at abour 2,000 RPM. And it worked afterwards the bottle was clean and the whole cars system had clean water all round. Now the water has gone orangy again Sad and making the bottle have rust in it Sad Dad thinks it may need a water change again or something major like the radiator needs replacing (It does look in poor condition so maybe does need to be replaced)

Thank you for your great comments, much appreciated! Wink
Cheers

rusty water is probably due to heater matrix

O dear, ok thanks. Would it just need repairing or be replaced totally?
its not worth worring about it aint an easy DIY job. if you want tol flush it properly then you will need to disconnect the thermostat from the matrix and the lower hose from matrix and then run it through till its clean and see what happens.
also you need to start using coolant instead of regular tab water, which contains chlorine and dissolved minerals and will damage the cooling system sooner or later.

oh yes we have scrappers in Egypt, but sometimes used parts are sold more expensive than new ones, simply because there are no new ones. especially for a car like Matiz since it is out of production and since there is no Daewoo anymore, there isn't a dealership.

In Egypt spare parts for a certain model tends not show up in the market until few years after it is introduced to the market. in Matiz case the model disappeared before it gets really so old and and needs new replacements. this situation made Matiz not so popular as one may have to go around quite a lot before finding a suitable spare part and will be eventually forced to pay a lot of money to get the car fixed. that's my dilemma with my Matiz.

i have done some research to find interchangeable parts for Matiz with other cars, only thing i can find so far is the timing belt which is same as one from Kia Pride.

i have been looking for over 12 months for an O2 sensor and I still cant find one.

sort'a generates a love/hate relation between you and your Matiz.

anyway, keep on the good work. anytime you would be interested to visit Egypt, remember that you have a friend there now.. Winknkiss
and oh... that green Matiz in the scrapper, looks in general cleaner and holding itself together better than mine Biggrin Biggrin
Thank you, oh yes i shall most definetely use the propper stuff now, cheers.
Yes i can really understand your dilema with your Matiz, what with parts hard to come by, no dealership around and parts frm the scrappy being high priced Sad I do hope you manage to find the parts you need, yep thats true. The timing belt on a Kia Pride is the same as on a Matiz, true! Smile You know i was going to get a Pride, but decided on a Matiz, dont know what made me choose a Matiz over a Kia Pride Wink a-hahaha Wink

Thank you! I shall keep up the good work Smile Always a pleasure for me to work on our little Matiz. I like that feeling of satisfaction when you have done something you wanted to do.........and its done! Biggrin

Really lol? I must say though, your Matiz looks good in your profile picture! Honestly it does! Smile Ohhhh lol u should have smelt the interior of that green Matiz in my local scrappy, goh, just utter odour, damp wet and who knows what lol!! Very Happy
Thanks Very Happy

I understand completely, yes that ought to work hopefully it will! Smile

Hello Dan,

You seem to be around the forum a lot. glad you found your thing.

Yes can imagine how a car without doors would smell in such damp weather. something like a cat gave birth inside.

about the beautifully done work. how long you think its going to last. i don't suppose you used thermal resistant paint coat, which is meant for such applications??? but also much more $$$$

you know, like the type other dudes use to make their valve cover like shiny red and stuff on Mustangs and big V8

and about the picture in my profile, sorry to disappoint you. I just got it off the web, mainly because its the same blue color. I don't have digi cam yet. you just wait until I get one and I will swamp this forum with photos of old Rusty. Skint
Hey,
Yes i do seem to be on quite often now hehe Smile

Definetely! No doors, rain in the yard hehe bad smell all round.

Yes the work on the engine i done, i beleive its going to last several years providing i still clean it regulary. I didnt use any special stuff/paint like the boys who customise their v8's hehe. Nope......i simply used a can of bright silver metallic paint, and i applied 4 to 5 coats. Before the coats i prepared it by scrubbing down the old stuff, then i primed it to prevent rust again then applied the 4 to 5 coats. Very Happy

No way really? Shame! I always thought ti was your Matiz in that p[rofile pic of yours! Pitty! Well i always say, it doesnt matter if its falling apart broken, rusty and what not, as long as it works. Smile
I mean my dad yes, he has a rusty 1988 Metro Vanden Plas auto in duo tone blue! lol ANd thats in his work place awaiting restoration as we recently took it off the road, its rusty! And its on the metroownersclub! lol hehe Very Happy

Dont be ashamed, be happy and greatfull Very Happy
Cheers!,
Dan.
Looks great, I think I will be stealing this idea for my matiz. Smile

LOL Why not!! Go ahead a-hahaha Wink Its so, cheap to do and very easy! Brilliant results providing you;
-Scrub the rocker cover and heat shield down
-Prepare the rocker cover and heat sheild
-Mask up all the surrouding areas with old newspaper and disconnect any pipes/rubber pipes that are in the way, like the HT leads Wink
- Primer them several times
- And use a bright shade of silver metallic to spray with
-Spray 4 to 5 coats, or more if you prefer! Biggrin

Let it dry and remove the surrounding maskings and wa-la! Do take a pic and post it up once you've done it! Think you can beat mine? Na it aint a competition hehe!! Very Happy
Cheers, Good luck if you wish to do it to your Matiz's engine Very Happy
