My sons 55 plate 1.4 Kalos has an intermittent problem with the engine manage ment light coming on and losing power though revs still high..and on some occasions engine cuts out...we have changed plugs and still intermittently does the same. I THINK it only happens when engine is started from cold as once it has happened and we continue running the car the problem does not reoccurr. This is particularly inconvenient as he is a retained firefighter, and tonight on a call out the car cut out three times on way to firestation...I have since run the car for 45 mins and only at the beginning did the engine light come on and engine cut out. I notice the oil is a little " milky" and will get that changed tomorrow but don't know if that has anything to do with it... Any help please?
Just taken it out again ..starts fine from engine cold...but get to top of hill junction and completely cuts out again engine management light flashing after restart....drove to local garage and kept engine running so they could see warning light on but as soon as I put it into neutral light went out
Any p-codes stored in ecu?
garage said all it got was " intermittent engine misfire" They contacted Chevrolet who said try renewing ignition coil....this did not work they are now saying replace fuel injectors...............
I just had the same issue, i had a loss of power and the MIL light kept coming on, I have just paid £815 (tonight) for a new exhaust system, a catalyc converter and a new coil pack.
Hi Folks, we had the same problem with my Girlfriends car (1.4 16v Auto). I reduced the spark plug gap to 0.80mm and found that this solved the problem - It also improved throttle response. Having checked the spark plugs recently all appears in good order (no fouling, nice brown colour on the spark plugs). I reckon the problem here is down to dodgy electrics....
Hi, have u cleaned your EGR valve? and MAP sensor? replace spark plugs? check for fuel contamination if not it may be the coil. i have similar problems with my kalos

Where are both of these located? Easy to remove? I found a cleaning service on ebay if you send them the part they will do it for you.

my mums car has the same problem ( miss fire in cylinder 2) when the plugs injectors an leads an swapped around the missfire is still in cylinder 2
the person above says he has solved the problem
has anyone else tried this as no one has commented to confirm it works
( the plugs will produce more spark burning carbon depoisits maybe??
THis has all the classics signs on sticking valves in the cylinder head

well on my mums car its only cylinder 2 that has the miss fire an only when the engine cold once its arm it doesnt do it
it used to do it all the time but a new egr valve an coil seemed to cure for a week or so
an now it just does it from cold but not straight away it took around 2 minutes after setting off an driving slowly yesterday until it started
i regapped the plugs on my mums car but its still the same
flutter
to your reply above i would say yes you just remove the plug an screw in the gauge
is there a temporay quick fix i noticed you can buy egine valve an lifter cleaner that you add to fuel or is the only cure to get the head off an lap the valves?
Only real cure is to get the head off and replace the exhaust valves with the later ones and ream out the inlet guides then grind the valves in

got it sorted in the end the head gasket had blown (only very slightly) this caused water down the valve bore rusted the valvestem an caused it to stick
i noticed the mayo in the oil cap months ago but a compression test didnt show the blown gasket
i have a full set of geniune chev exhaust valves for sale in box with gm part number on
if anyones intrested pm me
