i have had the matiz just a little over a week and the check light has came on can anyone help me figure out what it could be?
i am the second owner and its done 50432 miles
its an 03 plate
it was bought as a first car and i though it was great but now just a little stumped that the light came on
any help would be much appreciated.
hello,
if the "check light" is constant, then there is something wrong and you need to figure it out.
to discover what is the matter, then we need to know what the fault code indicates.
and as Americans say "there is more than one way to skin a cat" so you have two methods of knowing the fault code.
one is the correct, more curate way, which is using a code reader device, available at professional workshops and the will connect the car ALDL connector to the code reader and the fault code will pop up on the display of the device and then you will understand what is wrong.
the second more difficult way is to connect pins A & C in the ALDL connector using a paper pin and putting the ignition key in the ON position and the check light will start flashing in a particular sequence translated manually into numbers, and giving the fault code out.
do some research around this forum and you will come out with something useful.
what has changed with the car recently anyway?
did you apply any servicing to it recently?
are you having a rough idle or driving issues?
stay in touch and good luck..
Thanks for your post, nothing has changed with the car and i havent done any servicing to it. the car drives fine but its just the light thats worrying me. i dont want to drive it just incase,as it is my first car.
i have a friend who works in a garage who said they will check it out for me somepoint through the week.
i spoke with a member of my family who said it may just need a service
at first i thought it was the oil but even at that i dont know what oil it takes.
thanks again

NO - its not a BMW, which turns on the check light when it needs an oil change. So for sure oil has nothing to do with your problem, beside, there is a separate light for oil that lights red when the oil level is low.
lets wait and see, shall we?

Yeah..im keepin my fingers crossed its nothing bad.
I'll keep you posted
