Hi,
I have posted a thread before regarding an ac compressor issue. Now I got a compressor for my matiz but its using gas R134, but the previous gas was R12. The compressor is brand new but the rest of the ac components are the same. Is there any problem if I change the gas from R12 to R134? I am not going to change simple but all the ac parts will be flushed well and will make sure that there is no remaining of R12. What do you suggest? Any risks or issues?
hello,

congrats on your new compressor. this is good news and I'd like to know how much did it cost you?

about gas, the recommended gas for Matiz AC is R134A so you should be OK.

keep us updated .. Good luck..
Thanks friend. It costs around 11000 in INR but not yet fitted. I will have to pay some more to the ac mechanic. Over all may come up to 13000 INR. Though I will be happy because I cant think about my Matiz with out ac.

I heard that there will be some problem if we use R134A in a system that was using some other gas like R12 before. I am changing the compressor only. The rest of the parts will be the same. Is it ok if I flush the entire components and fill this new refrigerant?
The lubricating oil is different for R12 than used in R134A and this does cause issues with the seals in the system and will cause them to fail.

he said the the technician will flush the system first. don't think there will be any problems, as long as the compressor manufacturer recommends the use of R134, other than the acceleration of the car will be clumsy and it will feel like it dragging another car behind.

the downside of using R134 is that it is found to be 1400 times more harmful to atmosphere than carbon dioxide, also extravagant prices for R12 make it not so desirable and A134 is next cheapest best.

now more modern cars use carbon dioxide as AC refrigerant.

"but to to be fair, there are drawbacks to R134a in R12 systems. R134a moves much less heat than R12, which means that your R12 system's effectiveness will be sharply cut. The oil required for 134a reacts poorly with residues that cannot be flushed from a system that has run on R12. This reaction breaks down the oil and frequently destroys the compressor. There are other problems with retrofits".

the Matiz AC system anyway recommends using R134 as per manual, so there should not have been R12 in the system at first place.

what do you think HENDRICK CHEVY#88?
As far as I know all Uk spec Matiz had R134 .R12 was fazed out in 1995 in the uk a long while before matiz came on the scene.
r12 is banned in the uk now has been for a while due to eco reasons hendrick is correct.
Well, it seems there wont be any problem if I use R134a in my ac system. It should be flushed well before that. Anyway thanks a lot friends, for your valuable opinions.
