My Matiz has a burning/hot rubber smell that appears after it has been running a little while (enough for temp gauge to be at normal). It has been going on for many months now, but is so strong on occasions I can't have the heater blowing in the winter! Hubby has looked for the source and can't find it, so any ideas?
all sort of things can cause such issue.
cant you at lease till if its from inside the compartment or out.
are you having exhaust noises - it might be cracked and releasing smoke to the cockpit.
are you loosing coolant - would smell like burning sweet if you are using the green stuff.
there might be a wire or a hose touching the engine block and melting by heat and releasing such odor.
all together its not a good sign and source needs to be located ASAP.
keep us adapted
cheers

Have you looked at exhaust or other hot areas for rogue plastic bags stuck to them?? is the smell in the engine bay or in the car could even be a oil leak going onto the exhaust and burning of which would give a bad smell from vents paul
Hi guys
I think it is coming from the engine compartment as I can smell it when I walk round the front of the car after use. I do have a tiny oil leak from somewhere near to the front left (as you look face onto the car). But it is only an extrememly slow drip and I have no idea where it is coming from but the hot rubber smell has been around a lot longer than the drip.
might be a scuffing belt - check them out, especially timing belt as the smell might be an early warning that its about to snap off.
oil leaks don't usually make smell as oil needs an extremely hot temperature to burn. usually it just sets there and collect dust, but do not burn on the outside of an engine.
also might be a good idea to check the half metal gasket between headers and exhaust outlet ports. might be leaking out gas!
hi, my Tiz had an intermittent prob with a front brake binding slightly & it had a burning smell coming through vents, tried locating allsorts without luck til one day as i got out the wheel was slightly smoking ! Serviced caliper & piston, fitted new brake pads & solved ! May be worth a look, wheel would be quite hot when you get the smell, cheers, Robbie.
