Hi everybody - newbie matiz owner here.
I have just bought a Matiz (s-reg). I got it reasonably cheap due to the squealing noise which I guessed was from an accessory belt. After spraying water in various areas I have tracked the noise to a component which is located on the left hand side of the engine bay imediately under the coolant reservoir - Its round, bolted to the chassis and connected to the engine via some kind of cone shaped metal thing and and to be honest I cant work out what it is. After a quick inspection there doesnt seem to be a belt going into it (though it is hard to tell in such a confined space).

Any one any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Ben
Hello

Ok without a picture this is a bit difficult, but from what you say I think you've found one of the engine mounts. Squirt some lithium grease in it and this should stop the noise. Just double check cos if there is a belt going to it, dont squirt the grease!
The squeal is most likely coming from the belt slipping on the alternator pulley which is situated on the left side below the inlet manifold. They squeal when they get wet. You would need to slacken the alternator on the rail (10mm), adjust the tension of the belt and then re-tighten.
