Hi all
My wife had the idea that the left hand side foot control was in fact a footrest
So the clutch is being replaced. Everything stripped off the gearbox, all leads, starter motors, bolts and brackets. The problem is, it won't budge.
I've supported the engine from underneath, but no matter how hard i pull or bounce the gearbox it feels as though it is still bolted on.
Have i missed something? How do you get the gearbox away from the block?
thanks!
Have you tried some gentle persuasion with a WOODEN mallet - don't use a hammer or you may break something.
Yes, i've banged it with a mallet on a piece of wood. Only when i levered it a little have i seen it give a fraction, but it's definitely sticking somewhere.
Sitting here with the manual going over the removal procedure, and cannot find anything i've overlooked.
The gearbox should just slide off?
Ok, the car has to be in NEUTRAL to begin with

Progress .....
You must of left a bell housing bolt in somewhere.
You have taken the 3 10mm bolts out of the tin plate at the bottom of the gearbox havn't you?
Have you removed 3 large bolts starter motor clutch cable gear linkage, the nut below the starter motor (engine side). Two small nuts and oil plate at bottom of gearbox? And of course the transaxle mounting bolts. You also need to undo the top hose bracket and disconnect the hose.
Thanks for replies
Yes and yes to all.
I'm stuck at the hose now (my hose pliers have gone missing so need to buy another) i'm taking out everything that might be in the way.
Does the gear selector assembly have to be removed? (from within the gearbox)
Gear housing bolt, next to the passenger side drive.
Progress, but this is a difficult job, imho. Hopefully going by weekend
Replaced the clutch kit tonight, going to start closing tomorrow night.
Thanks for help!!

But...
Last night 2 friends arrived and finished in an afternoon.

The car is going great now, clutch is like butter.
Thanks for assistance!
Hi all, i've just been reading this thread as I am about to tackle a clutch replacement myself. Just one question... I have read through the proceedure in the downloaded matiz manual, but it's not clear to me how far I need to lower the engine to get the box out, also do I need to remove the front and rear engine mounts to get enough tilt? Thanks in advance.
