Hello all,

I'm just wandering if this is a common problem on the "Matiz" model from Daewoo? Wave

The problem which was on our Matiz, which is now thankfully sorted. Thumbsup Problem was, everytime it was driven it would lack power in the acceleration and it would stuggle to do 60MPH+, and when it drove it would be jerky, it would drive then, every 3 or 4 seconds you could feel the car shake and become jerky. It started on my Matiz about 2 weeks ago and myself and my father both thought it must be something simple, and to our suprise it was! It was all 3 HT leads, so we decided to replace them with new ones from our Cheverolet dealer and the result was......the ooomph and the livelyness was now back in our Matiz's 0.8L engine Very Happy The power in the acceleration and no jerkyness, just a smooth safe drive Very Happy......Lovely!
Cant beleive i used to underestimate the Matiz's 0.8L power before i bought my Matiz! I thought they were very slow to be honest but NO, they are pretty lively. Even when you accelerate off!

So is this a common problem on the Matiz then?(Jerky driving)

P.S= My Matiz head gasket is going, so it will be repaced soon, its loosing water (Keep having to top it up) and my dad is a technician mechanic, he knows best! lol Wink

Cheers all,
Dan. Biggrin

We dont know, its just disappearing after we use the car, and we keep on having to top it up. He suspects the head gasket is going so thats why its going to be replaced soon Very Happy

Dan.
do your oil turn into something that looks like mayonnaise?

hello Dan,

You seem to have done a lot of work on your Matiz. thats a good thing.

please whenever you are able to post some pictures of the work being done, please do so.

Cheers..
Hello Dan,

Can you tell me if the engine warning light would flash on and off when this was happening as at the moment my matiz is jerky and sluggy too just seemed to happen out of the blue and the engine light flashes every so often with the car being very juddery Smile

No problem! Dont worry, as when my dad does do the work on the head gasket on our Matiz i already intend to take lots of photos Thumbsup
Will post them on photobucket, then post them in a new thread which i shall call "Matiz Head gasket job"....... or something along those lines Wink
Cheers,
Dan

Hello there Smile Right, when my Matiz was jerky whilst it was driving i can honestly say this, our engine light did NOT come on at all not even a flash. We dont know why it didnt come on but it simply didnt flash or come on at all. Its a shame yours is as this might say it could be something serious with your Matiz's engine, but then again it could be a simple cure for your problem as in just replace the HT leads like on my Matiz. I know that sometimes Matiz or any cars engine management light can come on when the engine has a very small fault or when its something serious.
I really hope you manage to sort out your Matiz, dont give up!Thumbsup
Good luck!
Dan. Wink
Thanks Dan,

Will go make my own thread so that am not hijacking yours Smile thanks for the fast reply

Hi all .....just out of curiosity Confused ?? .....is there any chance of the catalytic converter being damaged when this problem occurs. Confused:

It would seem to me that unburned fuel is being ejected through the exhaust valve ....and FWIU ....this will "fubar" the cat. converter.

btw .... I drive a "classic" Citroen 2CV [as well as wifeys 'Tiz] ...and the HT leads "breaking down" is a common fault on the 2CV ....it's easy enough to trace the prob on a 2CV,as they only have two cylinders [and obviously,no catalytic converter in the exhaust system]

best regards
Terry Peace
hello everyone,

as a rule of thump, the "check engine" light only comes one when there is something effecting the Engine Management System, typically something electrical or electronic, but in most cases when it is something related to mechanics, it will NOT go on.

for example, I was driving around one day with my head gasket blown up, the car Check light did not go on and the car did not even feel lumpy. luckily it was only a short journey. only found out after stop and seeing some white steam coming off the tail.

so if the catalyst is blocked and Matiz model does not have a second O2 sensor, your check engine light will not come on.
Hi again all,

I'm having a similar problem at them moment with loosing coolant. Everytime I go out in my little tizzy I loose about a cm of the stuff but cant seem to track down where it's going.

I thought initially that it was the typical inlet manifold problem, especially as when i looked closer I realised that the inlet manifold had cracked in the 'usual' place. Sadly after purchasing some aluminium and doing some good old bodging, the problem still remains.

I've checked out all the usual suspects; leaky hoses, water pump, coolant cap etc and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong.

My only other thought would be the head gasket, but I've checked the oil and its spotless. Does anyone have any other ideas?

The poor old girl does seem to kick out a lot of white smoke/steam from the exhaust when shes cold. Could this be anything to do with it?

Thanks again for all the help

J&R
When the head gasket goes it doesn't mean that the water has to go into the oil. The water can easily go into the cylinder(s) and be flashed off as steam to leave with the exhaust gasses.

White smoke from the exhaust is usually water vapour so it could be your head gasket.

A compression test should give you some better idea of what's going on in your cylinders,
Thats true. My Matiz every morning now when its started it does give off quite alot of white smoke sadly Sad And the oil is clean. My dad still suspects its the head gasket so it will have to be done soon on my tizzy as soon as we have time. Time isnt something my dad has alot off, what with being in work from 8am till 7pm Monday to Friday.
