Hi all, new to the site. getting to grips with the wife's matiz (pumpkin)
The latest is that the belt for the power steering and air con has disappeared.
is this a tricky job to replace?
Thanks in advance
Hello there, first of all.........A warm welcome to you! Biggrin

I had the power steering belt changed on my Matiz not that long ago, and whilst watching my father change it for me (Hes a mechanic/technician in cars) it looks pretty simple to do. IF in doubt do ask for proffesional help or your local Chevvy dealer OR your local reliable Garage.

You should get plenty of replies here as we're all here too help each other out lol Thumbsup

Dan.
OK job done now
New belt £7 half an hours work
Jack up drivers front wheel and remove wheel
remove the plastic cover 2 10mm nuts, plenty of wd40
both belts now visible
put new belt over air con and power steering pulleys
stretch belt to just get onto drive pulley, use wheel nut spanner to turn drive pulley as the belt is held on.

easy peasy Biggrin

the belt should not be that easy to get in or out. it needs to be stretched a bit more.
Dont worry shankosi. It was tight enough. I found that the alternator belt was on its last legs so thats the next job. I know... I should have bought the alt belt and done it with the power steering belt. never mind Tearhair
Bit of an update.....pumpkin decided she wouldn,t turnover properly, flat battery I thought, But no even when the RAC truck connected power she struggled and if anything it sounded like the engine was seized.. towed home.
At this point she was going for spares or repair on Ebay. Surrender
Just as a thought I removed the A/C power steering belt.....
Started first time and revved up no problem..Thankyou so now I think the A/C was going that did for the original belt and that now it has seized,
So can I get a belt that is for power steering only?

depends on the bully arrangement you have. the power-steering belt and AC compressor belt are not the same shape so they can not be bypassed.

So I think - NO - it would not be possible to belt the crankshaft bully directly to the power-steering bully.

you will need to replace the bullies to accommodate same shape belt.

apologies for old bump, i need to arrange belt replacement's in my matiz.
Its rack and pinion, no power assist, i only need to get quote to replace 2 belts right? alternator and flat aircon belt? there is no power steering belt by default right? my 2000 matiz sure doesnt have power sterring

you need to replace the timing belt along with alternator and A/C belts.

this is better because timing belt is most important in Matiz Engine

You are 100% correct P/S is not standard equip.

However @shankosi is only partially correct
Replacement of the Timing belt should NOT always include replacement of the ancillary (A/C and Alternator) drive belts
  • Drive belt (alternator) replacement is recommended every 45,000kms OR 36 months
  • Drive belt (power steering or A/C compressor belt is shared if you have both) is recommended every 75,00kms OR 60 months
  • Timing belt is recommended every 90,00kms OR 72 months
Which means that the Timing belt and Alternator belts replacements are always done at the same time as they are critical systems (if you can do without the A/C Winknkiss through summer then it's not that critical)
