Hi all
I have a strange issue with my matiz, the front tyres are going threadbare VERY quickly. I replace the front drivers tyre back in May as i noticed that the inside shoulder was threadbare i have just noticed today that the same whel now has a threadbare tyre again!
It is on the inside shoulder of the tyre again and i have a feeling that it might have something to do with the tracking of the car but i'm not sure.
I have looked to see if anything might be rubbing on the tyre but i can't see anything. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be if it is not the tracking and if they have known tracking to get so bad as to start degrading the tyres so quickly?
cheers
Your wheel or camber alignment is out. Wheels that are toed out cause the inside of the tyre to lead and drag causing the inside wear. They should have slight toe in. This is caused by bumping pavements.
It can also be caused by excessive negative camber. The Matiz has a fixed design camber but this may be damaged.
Ask the tyre dealer to set alignment and camber as it requires special equipment.

bad front suspension assembly, i'd say.
Great, neither option sounds cheap to repair!! It'll have to wait till i get some money.
Wheel alignment shouldn't be too expensive, go to your local tyre place and ask them to check the tracking. It will be cheaper than getting pulled by the plod for having a dud tyre.

get your tracking done most gatages charge between £35 and £45 to do its cheaper to get it done now as a bald tyre is 3 points and a fine plus the replacement tyre again paul
yeah, i'm gonna get it done this weekend! sooner if i can afford it
At worst, you can buy camber adjusting bolt's, they can add a couple of degrees if needs be.
Cheers B1gDave, i'll look into that
tracking cant make a tire go bad this fast.
I'm with shankosi here, only had a couple of minutes when I posted about the bolts, that may do the job, do an ebay search on them.
My advice, before going to see if your tracking is out and costing, look yourself, I'll try and draw a couple of diagrams to show you what to look out for.
With your tires wearing on the inside, it sounds like you may have negative camber, so go to the front and see if your wheels look like this (or the offending wheel anyway):
/===\
Each diagonal represents a wheel, the equals signs are the car. If your drivers wheel looks like this, you want to try bringing it in, so it seems to be almost perfectly vertical, so you have even wear. As well as this, do you plant the accelerator when setting off? This can cause wear, as can cornering fast.
I wouldn't worry so much about the toe-in/out, this won't create this pattern of wear, unless you have a lot of understeer, which in a Matiz isn't going to happen

check your front suspension linkage
check your front suspension linkage
£25 at my place 4 wheel laser
cheers nelse, bit of a trek for me though
