How do I change headlight bulb?
I have searched through the service manual and a search of this site but I cannot find help on how to change the bulb on the front headlight... Is it an easy job? i.e. could an impatient woman do itTearhair

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm sure there's a twisty cap at the back of the headlamp. You might need to unscrew the whole fitting to gain access though.

Once open there are just a few springy clips.

Thank you for your swift reply Thumbsup - do you mean gain access from the bonnet side? or "unscrew the whole fitting" {{shudders}} from the front?

Sorry to be a pain.

I'm sure there's just one screw at the top of the lamp and it just slots out. Everythings accessible from the front of the car. Any wires will pull off and should only go back in one way so you can't get them mixed up.

Should take you only a couple of minutes.

It's a pain to see round the back of the lamps, it's just easier to slide them out and back in.

Thank you again for your swift reply - I will give it a go tomorrow in the daylight.

I am grateful - I will pass back to let you know how I got on.Wave

Three bolts & a screw to removeif you want to remove headlight.
Pop bonnet remove screw that hold trim under headlamp which will gain access to the bolt remove & top ones & headlamp will pop out easy as pieBiggrin
when putting back together dont over do the bolts up as they have a tendancy to strip the threadThumbsup
Sounds daunting but it really isnt a 5 minute job for a novice which a socket setThumbsup

As Lube says go visit newbie section & say helloBiggrin

loosen 2 visible screws that attach headlamp to body this will give valuable inch of play.pull electric wire attachment towards steering it is attached by 3 small spade connections.peel rubber cover again toward steering wheel.the halogen bulb is secured by wiring similiar thickness as a paper clip pull wires towards each other then loosen, like closing a pair of legs then opening widely.remember to hold bulb incase it falls into headlamp or reattach electric wire to hold bulb.ideally suited for woman ,thinner fingers not wee fat thick ones like mine.hope i dont sound patronising had to do it myself today just trying to help

Jonnydub, thanks for the tips. I have not got the right tools for getting the handlamps off, so i attempted it without taking them off. Took me an hour to replace them both, then didnt manage to clip the wiring back as i did this all in the wrong order Razz, i thought it will be easier to just put the rubber on the bulb then plug the wire in then fit it back on the headlamp, all wrong Wink but i managed it at the end to put the wiring back on, now i've got bright lights again Wink

RE: How do I change headlight bulb?
Ok.

The headlamp units have to be removed. This is not as difficult as it sounds, though. They are held in place by 2 bolts which you can see quite plainly when you look. Once both bolts are released, then the electical connectors may be pulled off the back of the bulbs. Next, pull off the rubber caps which protect the bulb holders. These holders are in turn secured by a spring clip-release it and the bulbs come out. They will only fit back round one way as the 3 prongs are designed that way. Before refitting the covers etc ensure that the new bulbs work. Onec you are certain then refit the components. Watch out for the ball-and-socket fitment at the bottom of the lamp units.

I've just replaced both the fronts with Osram Nightbreakers and can say that it is a quick job.
