RE: Help! EGR valve
i would not use a compound on the egr as when the exhaust gas is recirculated back into the intake manifold any debri will destroy the valves. just get some gasket paper thats about 1.5mm thick (if you cant get a new one) and cut one out.

RE: Help! EGR valve
Cleaning it will not help.the new egr valve is a modified one,this will need to be done at the dealers because the car will also need a ecu download(update).

I too have the EGR valve error code come up today, the Q is, is it still safe to drive the Matiz with the fault code, since I have to do 100+ miles this coming easter weekend?

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recerculation

It’s a type of valve that allows a little bit of the exhaust gas to enter the combustion chamber to lower down the chamber's temperature and reduce nitro-oxides produced by combustion and hence making you Tiz more environmentally friendly.

EGR has its down stream though. it tends to weeken the the engine in low revs and hold it back a little but it should be OK in high revs and highways.

if it is stuck open all the time the car will drive you nuts and horse jump in low revs. Riding

if it is stuck closed your engine will tend to be hotter all the time, consume more fule and produce black somg Smoke and will not idle as it should

in Matiz we have and EEGR = Electronic Exhaust Gas Recerculation valves controled by the ECU and works only when the car is nice and warm.

it is very important device and has to be working correctly.

if one is DIY type a guy / girl, you can clean it yourself and reinstall it.

when i took mine off it was stuffed with black stuff - nasty realy. after cleaning it the car runs smoother than ever and idels in the morning well

no way this could be correct. its very low behind inlet manifold. not visible easily. if you removed the set of hoses used for PCV you will see it. some of it anyway...
